Workshop

"Mindfulness for Storytellers".

In this 90-minute experiential workshop,

participants will be introduced to the

concept of mindfulness, and will be

guided through a few mindfulness

storytellers to manage stress and

performance anxiety, as well as be

more present-focussed, compassionate,

and accepting towards oneself and

others.  Being internally-anchored

would also help storytellers to

enhance their presence, as they

would be better connected to

themselves, their stories, and their

audiences.

Note: Particpants are requested

to have some writing material ready

Workshop

"Creative Storytelling and Healing Power in

Croatian Folktales".

In this workshop we would explore

ways that creative storytelling

(involving dramatic approach,

song, kamishibai, rhythm, etc)

could deepen the therapeutic

influence of folktales.

     Interaction in the process of

considering ways to compose and

tell stories creates an atmosphere

of closeness and trust in which all

participants are "on the same page"

regarding growth and spiritual

development.

     Croatian folktales and other stories

provide a deep and fragrant source

for material that can be used in the

creative storytelling process.  This is

the case especially with those folktales

which have motifs from beautiful and

little known Slavic mythology.

Stories we would work with would

include some "literay" Croatian fairytales

written by the Croatian writer Ivana Brlić-

Mažuranić, who is also sometimes called

"The Croatian Hans Christian Andersen".

(A fairytale is one kind of folktale.)

Jasmina Žiljak Ilinčić (Croatia).

Open-mic Storytelling.

"Close Encounters of the Natural Kind".

A story swap for sharing personal stories

about discovering one's passion for the

environment.  Why do we care?  Our love

of nature is often sparked by a memorable

incident; perhaps a dramatic encounter,

or a profound pastoral experience.  Offering

a forum for anyone to share a peak moment

often has a ripple effect, reminding us of our

interconnectedness, and perhaps even

re-informing the tellers.

Jackson Gillman (Massachusetts).
